It is recommended to use it in the temporality of H1, in any of the main pairs, including gold. But if you want more conservative and long term trading, you can use the H4 and D1 temporality. Keep in mind that a lower timing will mean higher profit and higher floating (DD), whereas a higher timing will mean lower profit and lower floating.

You can stop the AE manually during high impact news or, if you wish, use a news filter that will do it automatically.
